    10day of paryushan

    12 months ago 508

If you mean the “10 days of Paryushan,” that refers to the Digambar celebration called Das‑Lakshan Parva. Each day focuses on one supreme virtue. In very simple words:

    1) Uttam Kshamā — supreme forgiveness 2) Uttam Mārdava — supreme humility 3) Uttam Ārjava — supreme straightforwardness (honesty) 4) Uttam Shaucha — purity/contentment within and without 5) Uttam Satya — truthfulness 6) Uttam Sanyam — self‑restraint of mind, speech, body and senses 7) Uttam Tap — austerity/penance for self‑purification 8) Uttam Tyāg — renunciation of attachments 9) Uttam Akinchanaya — non‑possessiveness/non‑attachment 10) Uttam Brahmacharya — celibacy and purity of conduct

    How it differs by tradition:

    • Digambar: observes all 10 days (Das‑Lakshan) and concludes with Kshamāpanā (seeking and granting forgiveness) on the last day, often aligned with Anant Chaturdashi.
    • Shvetāmbara: Paryushan is 8 days and culminates on the 8th day with Samvatsari Pratikraman and universal forgiveness (Michhami Dukkadam). The Das‑Lakshan 10‑day observance is specific to Digambar practice.

Essence of practice in these 10 days:

    • Daily reflection on the day’s virtue
    • Pratikraman, svādhyāy (scripture study), silence, and fasting as per capacity
    • Letting go of anger, pride, deceit, greed; cultivating ahimsā and forgiveness for all beings
