    12 months ago 534

Das Lakshan “acts” (what to do during Das Lakshan Parva)

    What it is (Digambar tradition)

    • Ten-day festival of self‑purification focused on ten supreme virtues:
    1) Uttam Kshamā (forgiveness) 2) Uttam Mardava (humility) 3) Uttam Arjava (straightforwardness) 4) Uttam Shauch (inner purity/contentment) 5) Uttam Satya (truth) 6) Uttam Saṃyam (self‑restraint) 7) Uttam Tap (austerity) 8) Uttam Tyāg (renunciation) 9) Uttam Akinchanya (non‑possessiveness) 10) Uttam Brahmacharya (celibacy/chastity) More on the ten days: • What to do each day: • Day-wise virtues:

    Core daily acts to observe

    • Prabhu-bhakti and Navkar mantra japa (morning/evening).
    • Samayik (at least 48 minutes of equanimity) and daily Pratikraman.
    • Swadhyaya: read/listen to Jain scriptures; contemplate the day’s virtue.
    • Fasting/penance: upvas, ayambil, ekāsan/biyasana as able; keep maryādā.
    • Dāna: food, medicines, and support to sadhus/sadhvis and the needy; avoid himsā.
    • Vows: strengthen Anuvratas, Gunvratas, and Shiksha‑vratas; avoid five passions (krodh, mān, māyā, lobh).
    • Ahimsa in practice: careful speech, mindful diet (no root vegetables, avoid after‑sunset eating if possible), careful water/food filtration.
    • Aparigraha: reduce consumption, limit devices/entertainment, declutter, and donate.
    • Maitri and Kshamapana: cultivate friendship for all beings; let go of quarrels.

Day 10 (Anant Chaturdashi/Kshamavani in Digambar)

    • Special Pratikraman and universal forgiveness: “Khamemi Savva Jīve, Savve Jīvā Khamantu Me.”
    • If you harmed anyone knowingly/unknowingly, ask and grant forgiveness with folded hands.

    Sect note

    • Digambar: observes these ten virtue‑days as Das Lakshan Parva (10 days).
    • Shwetambar: observes Paryushan (usually 8 days) with similar core practices; main act is Samvatsari Pratikraman and universal forgiveness.

If you want current-year dates for observance in your area, see:
