porsi during paryushan
Porsi during Paryushan
- Meaning: Porsi (also written Porasi) means “after one prahar.” One prahar is about 3 hours from sunrise. So Porsi time is roughly 3 hours after local sunrise. Example: if sunrise is at 6:00 am, Porsi is around 9:00 am.
- What to do: Until Porsi time, do not eat or drink. After that time, sit in one place with care, remember the Pañcha‑Parameṣṭhi (Navkar), and then take simple saatvik food or boiled water. Continue all usual Paryushan disciplines: daylight eating only, no food or water after sunset, avoid roots, be mindful and nonviolent.
- Pachchakkhān (vow) wording (simple): “Porisim pachchakkhāmi” (I undertake Porsi). Say it only for the vow you are taking.

Essence: Porsi aligns food with daylight and restraint, reducing harm to subtle beings active at night and supporting inner purity during Paryushan.
