Can we eat coconut during Paryushan
Short answer: Yes, coconut is generally permissible during Paryushan.
How to follow it correctly:
- Fresh or dry coconut can be taken because it is a tree‑fruit (not a root or leafy vegetable). Check that it is clean, not sprouted, and free from insects. Eat only in daylight.
- If you have taken boiled‑water only, do not drink coconut water (it is unboiled).
- If you are observing Ayambil or very plain “boiled food” vows, avoid coconut (dry fruits, oiliness, and taste enhancers are not taken in Ayambil).
- Coconut sweets are allowed only if prepared the same day, without fermentation, and eaten within the proper time (before sunset); otherwise avoid.
- Always follow your local maryada and the guidance of your guru/sangh.
