    Raksha mantra for me

    12 months ago 151

Here are two widely accepted Jain “raksha” (protective) prayers you can begin today. Both are purely from Jain tradition and revered in all sects.

    1) Navkar (Namokar) Mantra Prakrit:

    Meaning (arth), in brief:

    • Bowing to Arihant, Siddha, Acharya, Upadhyaya, and all Sadhus destroys paap (demerit) and is the foremost mangal. Protection arises by weakening harmful karmas and strengthening shubh bhavana.

    How to chant:

    • Clean, calm place; sit steadily; recall the five Parameshthis.
    • Common counts: 7, 9, 27, or 108 times.
    • With samyak-bhav, dedicate merit for sarva-jiva kalyan.

    2) Uvasaggaharam Stotra (to Bhagwan Parshvanath) Short opening gatha (often used for raksha):

    • Uvasaggaharam pāsaṁ, pāsaṁ vandāmi kammaghaṇa-mukkaṁ;
    • Visahara-visa-bhaya-haraṁ, maṅgala-kallāṇa āvāsaṁ॥

    Simple meaning:

    • I bow to Parshvanath Bhagwan, destroyer of obstacles and fears, abode of auspiciousness, who frees beings from the heavy load of karma. Reciting with faith is traditionally held to remove calamities, illness, and negative influences.

    How to chant:

    • Morning or evening, after śuddhi; keep ahiṁsā and satya in mind.
    • Counts used in anusthān: 8, 21, 108, or 1008.
    • If possible, recite full 27 gāthās over days with steadiness.

    Full stotra and vidhi:

    • Vidhi (procedure):
    • 27 gāthā text:

    Notes on traditions:

    • Both Śvetāmbara and Digambara traditions honor the Navkar Mantra and Uvasaggaharam Stotra. Minor textual/recitation variations exist, but the meaning and intent remain the same: inner purification leading to true protection.

    Essential Jain spirit:

    • Real raksha is from right faith, right knowledge, and right conduct. Chant with shraddhā, practice ahiṁsā, and offer the puṇya for the welfare of all beings. Sarva-jīva kalyāṇa bhavatu.
