Rang and dwesh ne jitnar
“Rāg ane Dveṣh ne jitnār” (Rang and dvesh ne jitnar) means: the one who has conquered attachment (rāga) and aversion (dveṣa). In Jain Dharma, such a soul is called Vītarāga. Arihant Bhagwān/Jina are Vītarāga — they have destroyed these inner enemies and live in perfect equanimity (samata).
- Rāga = liking, clinging, craving.
- Dveṣa = dislike, hatred, irritation.
- Jitnār = conqueror. So, “rāga-dveṣa-jita” = the conqueror of attachment and aversion.
Spiritual essence:
- When rāga and dveṣa end, true peace and right conduct blossom. This is the basis of the Vītarāga path that all Jains revere.
- Both Śvetāmbara and Digambara traditions agree on this meaning: the Arihant is free from rāga–dveṣa and is therefore Vītarāga.
How to move towards this state in daily life:
- Practice samayik and pratikraman to reduce likes–dislikes and stay in equanimity.
- Remember the qualities of Arihant Bhagwān and the Panch Parameshthi; this contemplation weakens passions.
