“Satamā cho?” is a casual Gujarati way Jains ask, “Are you keeping the Satam fast today?” (the 7th lunar day).

Simple, polite replies:

• If fasting:

- Gujarati: “Hā̃, āje Satamā upvās chhe.” / “Hā̃, ekāsan chhe.” - Hindi: “Hā̃, aaj Sātam ka upvās hai.” - English: “Yes, I’m observing the Satam fast today.”

• If not fasting:

- Gujarati: “Nahĩ, āje upvās nathī.” - Hindi: “Nahĩ, aaj upvās nahī̃.” - English: “No, I’m not fasting today.”

Sometimes people also say “Satamā cho?” jokingly about the 7th guṇasthān. The true 7th guṇasthān (Apramatta-samyata) is a very high monk-level state of non‑negligence. As laypeople we should reply with humility, e.g.:

• “Apramatta rahvāno prayatna karīe. Jai Jinendra.”
