Can we do pratikaman if we have done late chavihar

    12 months ago 78

Yes. In fact, Pratikraman is exactly what we should do if we have broken Chauvihār (eating/drinking after sunset).

    What to do, simply:

    • As soon as you realize the lapse, do Alochanā (honest confession): “Today I breached Chauvihār by eating/drinking after sunset. Micchāmi Dukkaḍaṁ.”
    • Do Pratikraman: repent for the fault in thought–speech–body.
    • Do Pratyākhyān: take a clear resolve for the next period, e.g., “From tomorrow I will strictly observe Chauvihār before sunset.”

    Timing guidance (traditional):

    • If it happened today, do Devāsī (evening) Pratikraman the same day. If you missed it, do Raīsī (morning) Pratikraman the next morning.
    • The sooner the repentance, the lighter the karmic bondage.

    Sect notes:

    • Shwetāmbara: Perform the regular Devāsī/Raīsī Pratikraman and explicitly confess the Chauvihār breach within Alochanā/Pratikraman, then take Pratyākhyān for strict Chauvihār.
    • Digambara: Do Kṣamāpaṇā/Jāti‑Samāyik, confess the fault, and take Pratyākhyān (saṅkalpa) not to repeat it. The principle is the same—confession, repentance, and renewed vow.
