2) Does “Jambudvipa” mean the Indian subcontinent?

• No. Jambudvipa is a vast spiritual–cosmological continent described in Jain scriptures, not the modern Indian subcontinent.
• The region called Bharata Kshetra within Jambudvipa includes the land where we humans presently live. The historical “Indian subcontinent” falls within Bharata Kshetra, but Bharata Kshetra is a scriptural region, not a cartographic map.
• So: Jambudvipa ≠ Indian subcontinent; rather, Indian subcontinent ≈ a part of Bharata Kshetra.

3) Why were all Tirthankars (of the present chovisi) born in “the Indian subcontinent”?

• Jain answer: They were born in Bharata Kshetra of Jambudvipa during the current descending time-cycle (avasarpini).
• Reason (spiritual, not ethnic or political): Tirthankars arise only where there is karmabhumi—proper mix of joy–sorrow, capacity for vows, austerities, restraint, and where dharma can be established. In this avasarpini, Bharata Kshetra had those exact conditions; hence all 24 of the present chovisi appeared there. In Mahavideha Kshetra, Tirthankars are always present even now.
• Airavata Kshetra also has its own sets of 24 in respective cycles.
