Simandhar Swami is considered a living Tirthankar (Arihant) in Jain cosmology, but not one of the 24 Tirthankaras who appeared on Bharat Kshetra in the current half-cycle (present cosmic age). He resides in Mahavideh Kshetra, a different realm, where Tirthankaras are said to continually be born. Because Earth (Bharat Kshetra) has entered a degraded era (the fifth Ara) and no new Tirthankara is taking birth there in this cycle, Simandhar Swami is honored as the living Tirthankar connected to our world, while the 24 historical Tirthankaras on Earth are considered to have completed their appearances in this cycle.
