Mahavir ni pautri
Mahavir ni pautri (Mahavir’s daughter)
- Śvetāmbara tradition: Mahavir married Yaśodā and had a daughter named Priyadarśanā (also called Anojjā in some texts). This is the common text-supported view in Śvetāmbara accounts. You can read about Priyadarśana and related family details here: and here:
- Digāmbara tradition: Mahavir is said to have renounced early and remained celibate, thus there is no wife or daughter in this view.
- Common thread: Yaśodā is named as Mahavir’s wife in traditions that include a household life, and Priyadarśana (Anojjā) is identified as the daughter in Śvetāmbara narratives. The key difference lies in whether Mahavir married or remained celibate. For a concise outline of these family aspects, see the JainKnowledge pages on Mahavir’s family and life. and
