Meaning & Explanation

Logassa Sutra consists of all the 24 Tirthanakars and is dedicated to all of them. It is a very popular and ancient prayer. It is often called the Logassa-Sutra because it starts with the word logassa (lokasya = of the world). It is often recited while visiting a temple or during periodic meditation. This Sutra is taken from the Avashyaka (PratikramaNa) Sutra. It has seven verses the names of the twenty four Tirthankars and their Virtues are praised. They have achieved Liberation (Moksha) by destroying their eight Karmas. We should follow their foot steps to gain those Virutes to achieve the position of eternal peace and happiness.
