jain samayak learn
I’ll explain Samayik in a very simple way and then give you easy steps to learn and start doing it.
---
1. What is Jain Samayik?
- “Samayik” means staying in samata bhav – a state of equanimity (no anger, no attachment, no hatred).
- For a fixed time (usually 48 minutes) you:
It is one of the main daily duties (avashyak) in both Shvetambar and Digambar traditions (method/details may differ a bit, but purpose is same).

2. How to start learning Samayik (very simple way)
Step 1: Fix time and place
- Choose a quiet, clean corner of your home.
- Decide a regular time (morning or evening).
- Traditionally 48 minutes, but as a beginner you may start with 15–20 minutes and slowly increase.
You can see a simple guide here

Step 2: Prepare yourself
- Wear clean, simple clothes (white is preferred).
- Wash hands, feet, face.
- Sit on a clean cloth/asana.

Step 3: Begin with Namokar Mantra
- Sit or stand and recite Namokar Mantra slowly and with full concentration.
- Mentally bow to:
---
Step 4: Take a small vow (bhav/pratyakhyan)
In very simple language, you can decide in mind:
> “For this period of Samayik, > I will not hurt anyone, > will not speak harshly or lie, > will avoid anger, pride, deceit, greed, > and I will try to stay in equanimity.”
This mental decision is very important.
---
Step 5: Sitting and focusing
- Sit in a steady posture:
- Close or half-close your eyes and:
Try not to move too much; sit peacefully.
---
Step 6: Simple thoughts to keep during Samayik
Gently think on:
- All things are temporary (Anitya).
- I am soul, not body, not wealth, not relations.
- I don’t want to hurt any living being.
- Friendship for all, no hatred for anyone.
This is called bhavana/anupreksha in Jainism.
---
Step 7: End with repentance and forgiveness
Before finishing:
- Think: “If during this Samayik, any bad thought, laziness, or carelessness came, I ask forgiveness.”
- Again recite Namokar Mantra.
- Slowly open eyes and quietly return to normal work.
