    24th August special

    12 months ago 169

Here is a simple Jain way to make 24 August (today) spiritually special.

    • Remember: Jain festivals follow the lunar tithi. So, 24 August 2025 in your city may fall during Paryushan (Śvetāmbara) or Daśalakṣaṇ (Digambara). Please follow your local pañcāṅg and temple schedule.

    Do today

    • Recite the Navkar Mantra with full concentration (108 times if possible).
    • Sit in 48‑minute Sāmāyik; cultivate equanimity and stop rāga–dveṣa.
    • Do Devāsī Pratikraman in the evening; confess, repent, and resolve not to repeat faults; end with universal forgiveness (Micchāmi Dukkaḍaṁ).
    • Observe food restraint you can keep today: upavās, ayambila, ekāsan/biāsan, or strict vegetarian/vegan satvik meals.
    • Practice the 4 bhāvanās through the day: maitri (friendliness), pramod (appreciation), karuṇā (compassion), madhyastha (equanimity).
    • Do jīvdayā: avoid even subtle himsā; support animal care, water bowls, and needy sādhus–sādhvīs per tradition.
    • Reduce possessions and screens; speak softly; forgive and seek forgiveness from all.

If your local calendar places today within Paryushan/Daśalakṣaṇ

    • Śvetāmbara: focus on daily swādhyāy, pratikraman, fasting, and kṣamā–bhāvanā; prepare for Samvatsarī Pratikraman on its assigned tithi.
    • Digambara: reflect on the ten dharmas (kṣamā, mārdava, ārjava, śauca, satya, saṁyama, tapa, tyāga, ākiñcanya, brahmacarya) and observe kṣamāvaṇī on the prescribed day.

May today become truly “special” by inner purity rather than events outside. Recite, reflect, restrain, and forgive.
