I'm 65 can we do sex

    12 months ago 442

In Jain Dharma, sexual conduct is guided by the vow of brahmacharya (chastity/self‑restraint).

    • If you are householders and lawfully married: sexual relations are allowed only with your spouse (swadara‑santosh), and always with moderation and self‑control. Excess, adultery, and anything that inflames passions are discouraged because they bind karma. For monks/nuns, complete celibacy is mandatory.
    • At age 65: the rule is the same. Jain tradition encourages elders to increase restraint and gradually incline toward celibacy, using energy for sādhanā (prayer, svādhyāy, samayik). Many choose longer periods of abstinence, especially on vrata days and during Paryushan.

Simple guidance for a Jain couple

    • Be faithful, gentle, and non‑violent; never coercive.
    • Keep moderation; avoid lust‑inciting media and habits.
    • Observe celibacy during fasts, pratikraman/samayik, and major festivals.
    • Prioritize spiritual practices together; let desire be under vivek (discrimination), not under kashāyas (passions).

    Digambar and Shvetambar

    • Both traditions agree: complete celibacy for ascetics; for laypeople, chastity within marriage with strong self‑restraint.

If you have health questions related to intimacy at this age, please consult a qualified doctor; caring for the body is part of right conduct for a householder.

    For brief, authentic explanations:

    • Swadara‑santosh and maithun‑viraman (texts and references)
