Timing of 3 porsi
In Jain maryada, “porsi” marks meal-times counted from that day’s local sunrise. Three commonly used porsi-times are:
- Porsi (1 porsi): 3 hours after sunrise.
- Sādh‑porsi (1½ porsi): 4 hours 30 minutes after sunrise.
- Be‑porsi / Purimuddh (2 porsi): 6 hours after sunrise.
Important:
- Always calculate from your city’s actual sunrise that day.
- Complete the last meal well before sunset; night eating/drinking is avoided.
Example (if sunrise is 6:00 AM):
- Porsi: 9:00 AM
- Sādh‑porsi: 10:30 AM
- Be‑porsi/Purimuddh: 12:00 noon
- Ensure any later meal also finishes before sunset.
Traditions:
- Shwetambar and Digambar both follow daylight-based aahar; local maryada may vary slightly. Follow your guru/sangh’s guidance.
